Title and Abstract of the Talk:

"Bridging Cultures, Building Connections: Telecollaboration Projects for Fostering Intercultural Understanding and Communicative Competence in Language Learners"

In an increasingly interconnected world, the role of language education extends beyond the mere acquisition of linguistic skills. Today, educators face the challenge of preparing language learners to become competent communicators in diverse cultural contexts. This presentation aims to explore the transformative potential of telecollaboration projects, also known as virtual exchange, in promoting intercultural understanding and developing intercultural communicative competence among language learners. Telecollaboration projects leverage technology to connect classrooms across geographical and cultural boundaries, enabling learners to engage in meaningful and authentic interactions with peers from different countries. By engaging in collaborative tasks, such as joint projects, discussions, and shared reflections, learners are exposed to a range of perspectives, cultural practices, and communication styles. Such experiences provide them with opportunities to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for diverse cultures, challenging stereotypes, and fostering empathy. The presentation will delve into the multifaceted benefits of telecollaboration projects in promoting intercultural understanding. It will highlight how such projects offer language learners a platform to practice their language skills in authentic communicative contexts, allowing them to navigate linguistic and cultural differences, negotiate meaning, and develop intercultural communicative competence. Additionally, the presentation will explore the impact of telecollaboration projects on learners' motivation, engagement, and sense of global citizenship. Drawing on empirical research and practical examples, the session will also address the challenges and considerations involved in implementing telecollaboration projects effectively. It will discuss the pedagogical strategies, technological tools, and assessment methods that can enhance the success and sustainability of these projects. Overall, this presentation aims to inspire language educators to embrace telecollaboration to empower their learners to bridge cultures, build connections, and to become global citizens who contribute positively to a diverse and interconnected world.
